You have probably seen it in the movies and on TV as well. Iris scanning is not a new technology. In fact the idea for it has been around for decades, but the only problem is that its application and use is not so widespread. This is unfortunate because the technology can be very promising and it could provide some very far reaching uses.

Biometrics Recognition- Biometrics recognition is the science and practice of using the human body as a means of identifying a person. The idea is that since each body is unique it can be used for identifying individuals in order to help in security and verification. The idea is similar to the use of finger prints. Each individual has a unique finger print and that could therefore be used as signature.

While the fingerprint has been used for a long time as an identifying mark, there are other parts of the body which could be used in the same way. These other body parts would even be better because they do not have the same disadvantages as that of a finger.

Here are just some of the advantages of using iris recognition:

  • It uses a body part that is protected and not easily damaged or scratched, yet exposed and can be seen from a distance.
  • The recognition system can be quick and instantaneous.
  • The iris is ideal for recognition system because it almost always flat and so it shape, which is a crucial factor in this technology can be predicted.

The Iris Scanner- The most important part of the iris recognition system. It is the component of the system that detects the pattern in the iris and checks that against the information that it has stored in its database.  It captures an image of the iris and analyses it using random patterns. That is then checked against its database, to check if the pattern that was picked can be recognized as any of the profiles stored. This might sound all complicated but these process takes a few second at the most with the best iris recognition systems.

The great thing about it is that there is very little chance that a person would be recognized for some else. The system just picks a random pattern in the iris which would be impossible to duplicate. This is what makes this technology a very secure one which can benefit many businesses today.

The world is a lot more fun because of all the advances that have been made when it comes to technology. Just imagine how our world would be like without all of the technological developments that we now have. Or why don’t you try to imagine how lives would be in the future when more new developments come into play.

So you would have an idea of what the world of tomorrow would be like, here are some of the best technological advances  that might be coming this year or in the years to come and some that are already here:

Portable Fuel Cells- It might not be long before we can actually get to use computers that are powered not by batteries but by fuel cells. These power sources utilize hydrogen in order to create electricity. They have already been used in order to power vehicles but work is being done now in order to make them even smaller, allowing us to power computers with them. The technology exists already, all it takes is to make it smaller and be a viable product for consumers.

Glass Free 3D TV- What’s the downside with 3D televisions screens? They can deliver high quality images and pictures but the problem is that you would have to wear glasses in order to enjoy them fully. That can be quite annoying. There’s a new technology being developed right now which makes glass free 3D TVs possible. The problem with these screens however is that they would still require the viewer to stand in a certain location. Plus the fact that they are still very expensive.

OLED Screens- The use of LEDs on television screens made it possible to create very flat screen TVs, but the use of organic light emitting diodes have made it possible to come with ridiculously thin screens for televisions. Soon we will be able to buy TVs that are fractions of an inch thick at a very steep price though. Soon it might even be possible to get screens that you can fold.

Induction Cookers- This one has been around for some years already, but it is still not that popular at least when compared with other forms of cookers and stoves. This type of stove uses magnetic field in order to generate heat, which makes it very efficient and it uses less electricity than other electric cookers.

These are just a few of the latest technological that are up coming and some that are already available in the market now.

One of the most common service professionals that we go for are plumbers. There’s always something leaking or dripping in our homes that require their expertise and knowledge. Our impression of plumbing is that the job is very low tech or that it does not require or involve any modern technology at all. Nothing could be further from the truth however.  While it is true that there are some aspects of plumbing that can be classified as low tech, such as  fitting pipes and unclogging drains, there are also some aspects of their job that needs some advance technology.

Advance Technology in Plumbing- There are some aspects of modern plumbing that would require more than just skills in fitting pipes and installing drains. Here are some aspects of home plumbing that would require knowledge of more advance systems:

  • Back flow prevention
  • Installation of a hot water system
  • Installation and maintenance of pumps

The prevention of back flow is needed to ensure that waste water and sewage will not flow back in after it has been disposed out of a system. Most homes are in need of hot water systems and these cannot be installed by just about anyone.  They can only be installed by licensed plumbers who are capable of installation techniques and trained in handling the heating system. The installation should be certified by professionals in order for them to work. Another aspect where more advanced technology would be called in the work of plumbers, is in the installation of pumps and their maintenance.  That might seem like an easy job to do but installing a pump and maintaining it in order for it to run properly is not an easy thing.

Using New Technology for Solving Plumbing Problems- The use of advance technology can also be used in order to resolve common plumbing problems. Advance digital imaging for example can be used in order to look for the clogs and blocks on pipes and drains. It can also be utilized in finding holes and leaks. Powerful pumps can also be utilized in removing clogs on pipes as well as new chemicals and more powerful acids than those used in the past.

All of these new techniques and technologies are all useful when it comes to making the job of a plumber a lot easier. Like any job new technology would allow them to do things that were not possible in the past.

No matter what kind of work it is that we do, we are all dependent on technology. Gone were the days when it could be said that we are really free from the use of any form of high tech advances. Technology is important in the workplace because it makes work a lot easier and faster. Just how important technology is in the workplace? Here are some of examples of how it has been changing the workplace of today:

  • One of the major trends in the workplace today is the workforce is becoming more and more distributed. Gone are the days, when everyone has to stay in one location and that are that. Now it is possible to hire people who are different locations as long as they are the best person to do the job. This trend is caused by the emergence of communications and information technology. The computer and the internet are making it possible to share work information like never before. It is even now possible for employees to stay at home and do their jobs.
  • In the same vein, communications technology has also made outsourcing to be a major trend in several industries. This effect is mostly negative for employees of Western countries. A great number of companies are taking away some of the jobs and sending it over to other countries where workers can do the same thing  at much lower rates.
  • Mobility is also coming in to the workplace. This is in the form of smaller and more compact devices that would require less space and would be easier to move around. This trend means smaller and lighter computers as well as display devices. It would also mean that there would be far less electronic waste when those devices become obsolete.
  • Another technological trend that is happening is that technology in offices is following what the consumers want. In the past, it was the consumers who followed the kind of technology used in the office, but now the technology being used there is following the trend of the consumers.
  • Social media is also altering the way that the workplace is functioning.  What the internet world is thinking has now become so important for companies that they are in a mad scramble to promote themselves on those sites.
  • Perhaps the biggest way that technology is altering the workplace today is how easy it has made communications. Today it is now possible to conduct video conference with employees who are on the other side of the world.

Iris recognition technology

Iris recognition technology is a biometric identification system. It is based on the fact that the irises of humans are unique to each individual and they form patterns in the eyes which can be used for identification. Biometric identification is the system that uses individual characteristics of the human body for identifying a unique person. The good thing about this technology is that the iris is an internal organ which is also visible on the outside. The patterns formed by the iris can be seen from a distance which makes it especially useful for the technology.

Another distinct advantage of it is that the speed of its identification can be very fast. The technology used calls for almost instant recognition or matching. As a security feature it also has the advantage of having very little or no chance of false matching. Unlike other forms of biometric identification, there is almost no chance for someone to be mistaken for another person. This resistance to false matching stems from the fact that the patterns formed in the iris are very complex, this pattern is then entered in a coded system which is used in storing and identifying a person. Also the iris is mostly flat and that makes it good for being identified in electronic means, since its shape can be largely predicted by machines.

History- Two Ophthalmology Professors from the United States were the first persons to receive a patent concerning this kind of technology. They then hired a computer expert to write the algorithm for the technology that they have developed.  Eventually they founded the first company that dealt with this kind of technology which aims to make it a familiar and useful concept.

Technology- This kind of technology calls for the acquisition of images of the iris within the visible wavelength or maybe even into the near infrared range. The system then would try to get the unique features from a certain image and store that information in its database. The system is quite advance and it first aims to distinguish the different features of the eyes in order to identify the iris itself.

The system for using it is quite simple and is just similar to being photographed. The only thing that the subject must do is to present the eyes, so that the machine could start recognizing it. Once there is a match in the database, the person could be allowed entrance or do whatever action that requires identification.
